Community Action Connect: An Opportunity for Neighbors to Help Their Neighbors!
Can you help? We have families in need of good, used furniture items such as beds, dressers, tables, chairs, etcŠ We have a family in desperate need of a refrigerator. They are currently using blocks of ice and coolers to keep their food cooled. If you have these items that are no longer needed, we can find a new home for them! Please call Jen Shilling, at 888-7188 to donate.
Thank you to all the volunteers, speakers, and wonderful Peace Choir members who helped make this year's CASA Candlelight Vigil a success! Over 70 people attended. April is Child Abuse Awareness month and a chance to remember that CASA keeps working hard to stop child abuse, and advocate for the rights of children. If you'd like to be a CASA volunteer, call Becky at 888-7436.
Kudos to Audrey Albaugh, a member of our community who so generously donated many household items to ORCCA for families in need. These donations will fill such a great need to many people in our community.
The Letter Carrier's Food drive is May 9. Mail carriers will leave a bag by your mailbox to fill with canned food. Once it's filled, place it near your mailbox to be picked up. North Bend, Bandon, Coquille, Myrtle Point, Coos Bay, and Powers are participating in this event.
Thank you to Mr. MHS for their diligent efforts in raising $10,000 for our Share Bear Snack Pack Program. We are very proud of their work. They also put on a superb performance last weekend, for the Mr. MHS Pageant. Because of them, many more hungry children will be served in our community!
Know someone looking for a great way to spend their summer? ORCCA is recruiting for two Summer Associate positions to work full time with children or helping to feed the hungry for 10 weeks. These positions include a salary of $833.00 per month and an exciting work experience! A $1,000 educational award will be given at the end of service to be used for tuition. To apply go to https://my.americorps.gov/mp/recruit/registration.do and create a log in, and complete the application materials. For more information go to www.orcca.us or call Hallie at 888-7108.
Building to End Hunger was a huge success! Check out the structures at the Pony Village Mall available for view until April 30. We appreciate all the hard efforts of the groups/leaders and mentors involved!!! Thanks to the hard work of the Development Team who made this a successful project!
