Reedsport, OR 97467

In all, the programs of Great Afternoons serve 178 children and include:

Great Beginnings:

Provides infant and toddler care from 6 weeks through age 3. This program is the only sliding-scale daycare service in the Reedsport area, and allows many parents to better support their families, seek higher education or other methods to improve their lives, and the lives of their children. Great Beginnings also serves as a way for families to seek outside care for children in the event of tragedy or family crisis, and also provides relief care.

Great Times:

A school age program for grades K-6, that offers homework help, reading, tutoring, nutritious snacks, companionship and positive role modeling for children of parents who are working or going to school. This program also provides full time childcare and summer school classes for school age children when school is not in session. The program allows parents to feel secure that their children are in a safe and positive environment after school, and before the end of their work or school day.

Great Opportunities:

A community program that offers parenting classes, education and enrichment, fitness and art classes. This allows families to benefit from the Great Afternoons program together, and addresses some of the needs of the families with children enrolled in Great Afternoons programs in a holistic way.

Great Garden:

A service-learning project creating food security and an income source with garden bed rentals and the sale of food and bulbs at a local farmers market. The garden offers Great Afternoons and local elementary school students with an hands-on learning opportunity to dig in and get to know lots about nature, nutrition, biology, gardening and the food growth system. Some of the food is donated to a local food bank to provide additional nutrition resources to hungry families, and volunteers also are allowed to take a portion of the food grown in the garden home to feed their families. As the garden continues to grow and provide more resources for the community, Great Afternoons staff expects that more workshops, work days, hands-on learning and classroom projects will take root to better benefit the Reedsport area.

Great Afternoons Preschool and Childcare:

Provides kindergarten readiness, socialization, and age appropriate activities year-round  for children ages 3-6. Our preschool and childcare programming provides over 60 children ages 3-6 with a safe and productive environment.  In our programs, approximately 60% of children receiving services are eligible for free or reduced cost lunch, a reliable barometer of financial need.  By offering organized activities for children of parents who are working or going to school, the program offers a “home away from home." The programs offer combined structure and a range of age-appropriate activities with positive role modeling and the opportunity to develop pro-social behaviors
