Meet Les Engle. A former teacher of 35 years, Les retired from his work at the school district but never retired his feelings about helping local children to have the care and support they need to thrive.
He is Community Action!
While he was a teacher, Les said he saw so many children who did not have the support and care necessary to thrive, and he was determined to do something about it. Taking action on behalf of children through his work with Court Appointed Special Advocates of Coos County, Les has advocated for the best interests of children and helps provide a voice for children in court.
“I witnessed these children come through the education system without any sense of permanency or stability,” Les said. That’s why he became a CASA and has been working with the most vulnerable children in Coos County, by giving them a voice.
He invests his time in helping children, and through this rewarding experience Les knows he is making a big difference in the present and future lives of children in Coos County.
“It’s really important in life to have a support system whether that be a family, a community, a community agency or somebody to advocate for you, especially in times where life has not been fair,” Les said. “I think life has been good to me and I see this as a chance to give back.”
