Job Title: Development Specialist

Hours: 40 Hour Week Base

Primary Purpose: To work with the Development Team and other ORCCA staff to mobilize internal and external resources to optimize the services that ORCCA’s children’s programs provide and enhance ORCCA’s communication tools.  

Essential Responsibilities:
Generate funds and other resources for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Great Afternoons and other children’s programs
  1. With program directors and development staff, define and implement a fundraising plan for CASA and Great Afternoons that includes a combination of strategies and methods for generating revenue
  2. Collaboratively plan and write grants following ORCCA grant procedures and using digital devices for transmission and creation
  3. Collaborate with program directors and development staff to ensure timely completion of required grant reports
  4. Plan and implement special events following ORCCA event procedures
  5. Conduct at least 2 annual letter writing campaign(s) including drafting letter, working with graphic designer, compiling mailing list, and distributing the final product
  6. Meet with CASA and Great Afternoons Program Directors on an ongoing basis to provide assistance with resource development and grant writing
Manage and develop internal communications
  1. Collect pertinent information and announcements about ORCCA and distribute to ORCCA staff and volunteers through established and new methods
  2. Strengthen connections and interactions between ORCCA programs and outlying areas through defining and implementing a plan for internal communication, including:
    • Annual work plan distribution
    • Social media tools & updates
    • Awareness/use of organizational master calendar
  3. Collect information, create content, and digitally distribute the ORCCA Echo and eConnect newsletters in coordination with program specific newsletters
Support other ORCCA communications
  1. Gather information, create content, and produce the annual report and other ORCCA publications as needed
  2. Assist agency publicist with writing press releases, and other public relations tasks primarily relevant to children’s programming as needed
Other duties
  1. Regular attendance is a requirement of the position, including possible evening or weekend activities that may require in or out of area travel
  2. Participate in development team through attending regular meetings and sharing knowledge and resources
  3. Cultivate relationships with diverse donors and community partners by attending meetings, giving presentations, and working with development team to create necessary documents, proposals, or other materials
  4. Maintain good professional relationships with all programs and staff
  5. Promote CASA, Great Afternoons, and ORCCA’s mission and vision to the community through written and oral communication
  6. In collaboration with the development team and relevant community partners, develop and pilot new children’s program as needed
  7. Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills
  • Knowledge of standard professional writing conventions such as basic grammar, spelling, AP and/or other professional styles
  • Ability to communicate with diverse community partners and organizations with diplomacy and tact
  • Ability to input data and generate and utilize information from a computer or digital device
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, mail programs, internet and social media tools; ability to learn new technologies and software programs as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of teams/committees
  • Ability to effectively delegate to others and to track and evaluate their results
  • Strong organization, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Versatility, flexibility, initiative, and willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with changing and overlapping deadlines
  • Ability to organize work effectively with great attention to detail.
  • Passion, enthusiasm, focus, creativity, and a positive outlook especially in high stress conditions
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Experience working with grants and contracts, generating grant reports and budgets, and fundraising methods preferred
  • Ability to accurately analyze and interpret financial statements, budgets, and budget projections preferred
  • Understanding of the non-profit environment and federal, state, and program requirements pertinent to children’s social services preferred


Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required

Level V        A.    Four years paid experience and/or training plus an Associate Degree or Certificate in related field is required; OR

A Bachelor Degree plus two years experience in a field directly related to the position description is required.


Work Environment:

  • Geographic Area: Coos, Curry and Western Douglas Counties
  • Primary job site:  Newmark Center
  • May lift items up to 51 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Open work stations and cubicles with moderate noise
  • Primarily indoors, in a climate-controlled environment; may not have access to sunlight.  Occasional activities outside in a non-climate controlled environment.
  • May have periodic evening and/or weekend activities


Other:

  • Licenses: A current Drivers License is required
  • Proof of automobile liability insurance @ $100,000/300,000 liability limits & maintain such limits
  • Reliable method of getting to work
  • Must be free from illegal drugs, may be subject to suspicion testing
  • Must be able to pass the Criminal Background Check
  • Able to drive/travel long distances
  • Attend and participate in meetings for as long as four hours at a time
  • Ability to work in excess of eight hours per day and during evenings or weekends as required
