TITLE: Teacher/Home Visitor
SALARY: LEVEL V
HOURS WORKED: 40 hours per week, Seasonal
SUPERVISED BY: Area Manager
STAFF SUPERVISED: Associate Teacher and/or Teacher Assistants, Classroom Assistants and Volunteers
POSITION PURPOSE: To implement delivery of services as defined by the Performance Standards and Work Plan.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Classroom (128 class days minimum) – (70%)
- Maintain an orderly and physically/emotionally safe environment.
- Follow a consistent schedule providing a balance of activities.
- Follow Creative Curriculum guidelines for classroom set-up and design.
- Develop and implement lesson plans, which incorporate developmentally appropriate materials and activities that promote social/emotional, cognitive and physical growth.
- Join the children for meals. Model social skills and good eating habits. Gently encourage trying new foods.
- Individualize curriculum to meet the needs of each child.
- Implement curriculums as outlined in Work Plan.
- Follow bilingual guidance in staff notebook.
- Home Visits/Family Contacts– (5%)
- Conduct educationally focused home visits with assigned families (2 home visits and two parent-teacher conferences per family per year.).
- Support parents as primary educators of their child.
- Facilitate child-focused, parent directed activities. (CFPD)
- In coordination with team, support families in completing health exams, screenings and follow-up.
- Coordinate referrals to outside agency with appropriate component staff.
- Complete developmental assessment and goal setting tools as outlined in the Work Plan.
- Parent Involvement - (on-going)
- Welcome parents into the program and help them find their comfort zone.
- Provide alternate activities for parents who are unable to spend time in the classroom.
- Encourage parent participation in program planning.
- Support Policy Council representatives.
- Share responsibility with Family Advocate in planning and implementing parent meetings/activity days.
- Record Keeping - (10%)
- Maintain records as defined in the Work Plan in a timely and efficient manner.
- Supervision - (13%)
- Associate Teacher/Teacher Assistant
- provide constructive ongoing feedback
- conduct evaluations as outlined in the Employee Performance Evaluation Process
- support Associate Teacher/Teacher Assistant in his/her professional growth
- prepare Associate Teacher/Teacher Assistant to maintain and carry on in absence of Teacher
- work with Area Manager to develop an individualized training plan for Associate Teacher/Teacher Assistant
- TAP and SCBEC Volunteers
- provide constructive ongoing feedback
- complete performance paperwork as required by appropriate program
- orient all volunteers to classroom emergency procedures

- Accept suggestions and guidance from Area Manager and/or Child Services Coordinator.
- Maintain open, two-way communication with team members and center staff to ensure cooperative sharing of center space and resolution of concerns.
- Share pertinent information on children and families
- Pass referrals and requests for consultation on to appropriate staff
- Attend pre-service and in-house trainings
- Attend staff meetings, center team meetings, debriefings and other meetings as notified.
- Attend workshops and trainings as identified in individual training plan.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- B.A. in Early Childhood or related field with/23 ECE quarter credits, (or 15 ECE semester credits) preferred
- 1) AA in ECE or 2) AA in related field (w/23 ECE quarter credits) or 15 ECE semester credits and direct experience teaching preschool children required
- Paid experience working with preschoolers
- One year experience working with low-income families preferred
- One year experience with home visitation preferred
- Knowledge of community resources
- Experience with special needs children preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Geographic area: Coos and Curry Counties.
- Regular kneeling, bending, stooping and sitting on floor
- May lift items up to 51 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Ability to stay calm and make decisions in emergency situations
- Regular attendance is a requirement of the position
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated by the supervisor based on the input from appropriate staff relative to: attitude, skills and knowledge. All employees’ formal evaluation will be conducted in the winter.
New Employee or New Position (first two years of either) performance goals will be set in the fall and reviewed/updated before the end of the program year.
OTHER:
- A current Oregon Driver’s License is required.
- A good driving record is necessary.
- Proof of automobile liability insurance
- Reliable transportation
- Must be drug-free
- Must be able to pass mandated Oregon Employment Department Child Care Division Criminal History Registry Background Check.
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Current Oregon Food Handler’s card OR ServSafe® Food Safety Certification.
- Health Appraisal
- Able to drive long distances for as long as four hours at a time.
- Ability to sit at meetings for as long as four hours at a time.
- Ability to work in excess of eight hours per day and during evenings as required.
