KMTR - Homeless rates up 85% in Coos and Curry counties

Oregon Coast (KMTR) - Two coastal communities saw a huge increase in the number of homelessness this year.

Last year there were 539 homeless people living in Coos and Curry counties.  This year that number jumped to just over 1,000 people.

Meyer Memorial Trust searches out local needs

A private Oregon trust will try to find out early next month what South Coast nonprofits say their communities need, beginning March 1 in Reedsport.

The trust provides grant application advice and collects information from nonprofit organizations about the needs of regional communities through meetings organized under its Two Way Street Tour program, said program officer Sally Yee.

Bob More is retiring after 24 years working with the Oregon Coast Community Action housing office, advocating on behalf of low-income people needing affordable housing.

COOS BAY — No one would mistake Bob More for an idealistic college student these days.

His hair and closely trimmed mustache and goatee have turned snow white, fitting for a man hailing from Minnesota. He has spent 24 years at Oregon Coast Community Action. He’s had the same job, helping families keep roofs over their heads.
