Event Description

Oregon Coast Community Action (ORCCA) is hosting a Wilderness First Aid Course July 9 and 10, 2011. This intensive backcountry medical training course will show students how to deal with medical emergencies when they are miles from help and dialing 911 is not an option.

Wilderness Medicine differs from traditional first aid in many respects. First aid is carried out in the field, and limited medical equipment makes improvisation and resourcefulness essential. Participants will include students from Community Action Adventure’s Watershed, Dunes and Beyond Summer Camp, but there is still a selection of slots for public enrollment.

“We are proud to be able to host a Wilderness First Aid Course on the South Coast”, comments ORCCA CEO Mary Schoen-Clark “ It is important we have the tools to truly enjoy our beautiful state and be as safe as possible while doing it.

This course is recommended for all outdoor professionals and enthusiasts who spend time in remote areas. Graduates will be certified by Wilderness Medical Associates. Enrollment is limited, please call Madeline Enos at (541)888-7070 for logistical and pricing information or Wilderness Medical Associates at 1-(888)-WILDMED for curriculum information.

Oregon Coast Community Action is a non-profit network of programs that help feed, house, warm and educate the communities of the South Coast. ORCCA encourages all our neighbors to be a part of disaster preparedness planning. For more information, please call (541) 888-1574 or learn more at www.orcca.us.
