COOS BAY, OR – A new intensive backcountry medical training course will show students how to deal with medical emergencies when they are miles from help and 911 is not an option. Wilderness Medicine differs from traditional first aid based on the remoteness of treatment and the unavailability of medical equipment. Improvisation and resourcefulness are essential.
The Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) noncredit course is scheduled from 8:30 - 6:00 p.m. on July 9 and 10 at the college. All outdoor professionals and enthusiasts who spend time in remote areas can benefit from the instruction provided in the course. Participants will receive certification by Wilderness Medical Associates.
