Charleston (KMTR) - A community festival tomorrow in Charleston will benefit local kids in need. Octoberfish is an annual event featuring live music, seafood, and art. This year, proceeds will go to several children’s programs.
One of those is the Court Appointed Special Advocate, or CASA, of Coos County. CASA volunteers help abused or neglected children find safe, permanent homes. They say CASA always needs more volunteers, and even if you've never been in a courtroom, you can still help a child.
Charlene Moore has been a CASA for about 15 years. She said, “I've never met anyone who really wouldn't be able to do this. You need a heart, and you need to want to give some time.”
Funds raised from Octoberfish will help CASA pay for volunteer training. Organizers say they hope to start a new training session soon. If you're interested, you’re asked to call (541) 824-0214, or visit http://www.orcca.us /casahome.html
