The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation has awarded $20,000 to Oregon Coast Community Action to support children in need in Coos County.

The foundation awarded $10,000 for the Share Bear Snack Pack program and $10,000 for the Court Appointed Special Advocate program, a press release said.

Share Bear has expanded from five schools in 2007-08 to serving more than 450 children in nine schools throughout the South Coast this year. The program provides snacks for children identified by school officials as at risk to be without access to food over the weekend and school breaks.

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Coos County has added more than a dozen new volunteers providing a voice for children in court.
