Oregon Coast Community Action was recently selected to participate in an exciting program sponsored by Oregon Community Foundation that will work to bring "Boomers" and "Babies" together. Oregon Coast Community Action was one of 20 organizations in the state to receive an award of $5,000 and the invitation to participate in OCF’s “Babies and Boomers” learning community that has been launched to increase volunteerism among members of the “Boomer” generation.
ORCCA will work with OCF to begin the initiative on the South Coast starting in September, and will specifically utilize volunteers to support the Early Head Start and South Coast Head Start programs. Providing additional adult interaction and support for young children and infants will promote school readiness and offer Boomer volunteers the opportunity to support the next generation. OCF is creating trainings and a learning community through the organizations that received grants for this program, and aims to increase the number of Boomer volunteers working with young children in order to impact the lives of many children and volunteers in the region.
