There are a number of ways to support your neighbors and fight hunger. You can volunteer at a local food pantry, make a donation, or share a hunger fact with friends. Please visit www.oregonfoodbank.org to see the list of 30 ways anyone can take action against hunger!
Last year over 45,000 households accessed emergency food boxes in Coos and Curry Counties. With high unemployment rates holding steady and the possibility of cuts to the S.N.A.P. (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits program, food pantries are preparing for an increase in the demand for emergency food. Now more than ever, the community is in need of support as we head into the colder seasons, when energy costs go up ad our neighbors have to stretch their dollars even further.
Your donations strengthen your community throughout Coos and Curry County. Each dollar given to the South Coast Food Share Network can move up to 7 pounds of food to food pantries and meal sites that feed hungry families. Donations can be made online at www.orcca.us/vfd or you can drop off donations at South Coast Food Share or any of the local food pantries. To find out which South Coast Food Share partner agency is closest to you, please call (541) 435-7754 or visit www.orcca.us/scfs.
South Coast Food Share is a program of Oregon Coast Community Action, a non-profit network of programs that help feed, house, warm and educate the communities of the South Coast, and help families thrive. For more information, please call (541) 435-7754 or learn more at www.orcca.us.
