Local Dutch Love event will feed hungry families, offer free coffee Feb. 14
Jan. 29, 2010
On Sunday, Feb. 14, all three Bay Area Dutch Bros. Coffee Stores will collect cans or boxed items of food for South Coast Food Share and provide free coffee to donors in honor of the statewide Dutch Love food drive. The community can help support hungry families in Coos County by donating to the annual Dutch Love food drive in Coos Bay and North Bend!
An event that began in Eugene/Springfield through a partnership with the Dutch Bros. Coffee Stores 10 years ago, Dutch Love has grown into a statewide event supported by the Oregon Food Bank network of 20 regional food banks. South Coast Food Share, a program of Oregon Coast Community Action, is the regional food bank for Coos and Curry counties.
Community members can receive a free coffee at any Dutch Bros. Coffee Store in the Bay Area on Sunday, Feb. 14, by donating three canned or boxed food items to feed hungry families.
Now more than ever, donating to help feed hungry families on the South Coast will make a difference in the lives of our neighbors. As layoffs, evictions and business closures continue in Coos and Curry counties, helping families in need by donating a can of food, a dollar or volunteer time can make a significant difference to those in need.
“Oregon Coast Community Action is helping our local families to make ends meet as more and more of our neighbors are losing jobs, losing homes and going hungry,” said Mary Schoen-Clark, CEO of Oregon Coast Community Action. “You can help South Coast Food Share make sure no child, no grandparent and no family goes hungry in our community by donating to the Dutch Love food drive, or funds to South Coast Food Share.”
A program of Oregon Coast Community Action, South Coast Food Share supports more than 30 local food pantries and meal sites in Coos and Curry counties through food donations and the transport of food from the Oregon Food Bank. In 2008-09, South Coast Food Share transported and distributed 1.9 million pounds of food to families in need, and as the need for emergency food boxes continues to rise South Coast Food Share is working to increase donations and food resources in our local communities.
“Everyone in our community can help a hungry child or a family in need,” said Rollie Lobsinger, Director of South Coast Food Share. “Over the last year emergency food box distribution has increased to an all time high. Because of this, we need as many donations of food and funding as our generous community can provide in order to meet the needs of our hungry neighbors.”
Oregon Coast Community Action provides services that feed, house, warm and educate vulnerable individuals and children throughout the South Coast. For more information, those interested can visit www.orcca.us. or call (541) 888-1574.
