April 1, 2010
On Saturday, Apr. 24 2010, the City of Coos Bay and the City of North Bend will sponsor four food drive sites where citizens can dump or recycle two bags of trash for free by donating two cans of food to feed hungry families. All food donated to the City Clean-Up Food Drive will be provided to South Coast Food Share and its pantries in Coos and Curry Counties.
In recognition of Earth Day on Apr. 22, City Clean-Up Day will encourage the community to donate food to feed hungry families in our region, learn about recycling, and take this opportunity to get rid of a bit of extra trash. Each pair of 35-gallon garbage bags can be turned in for free with a donation of two cans of food or more.
Bringing more community spirit to this service event, the United Way of Southwestern Oregon in Coos Bay will coordinate the clean up of several yards and grounds at homes owned by senior citizens. Local volunteers will take out the trash and clean senior’s yards during City Clean-Up Day.
To donate food and participate in City Clean-Up Day, community members can bring trash and their contributions to four locations in Coos Bay and North Bend.
- Coos Bay citizens can bring trash, and their canned or boxed food items, to the Eastside or Empire Fire Stations, or the South 4th Street parking lot near the Out-Door Inn.
- North Bend citizens can bring trash and their canned or boxed food items, to the Pony Village Mall parking lot between the Ross Store and Mini Pet Mart.
Without the support of South Coast Food Share, a program of ORCCA, our local communities would not have access to millions of pounds of food from national, regional and statewide distributions through the Oregon Food Bank network.
