In all, the programs of Great Afternoons serve over 150 children. The programs are the only sliding-scale daycare service in the Reedsport area. Great Afternoons programs help many parents to better support their families, seek higher education or other methods to improve their lives, and the lives of their children. Our program options include:
Provides quality infant and toddler care from 6 weeks through 48 months. Our well-trained staff follow best practice and receive yearly training in infant/toddler care. The program has an infant room for 8 infants and a toddler room that serves up to 10 children. Great Beginnings also serves as a way for families to seek outside care for children in the event of tragedy or family crisis as well as providing relief care.
Great Afternoons Preschool and Childcare:
Provides kindergarten readiness, socialization, and age appropriate activities year-round for children ages 3-6. Our preschool and childcare programming provides over 60 children ages 3-6 with a safe and productive environment. In our programs, approximately 75% of children receiving services are eligible for free or reduced cost lunch, a reliable barometer of financial need. By offering organized activities for children of parents who are working or going to school, the program offers a “home away from home." The programs offer combined structure and a range of age-appropriate activities with positive role modeling and the opportunity to develop pro-social behaviors
A school age program for grades K-8, that offers homework help, reading, tutoring, nutritious snacks, companionship and positive role modeling for children of parents who are working or going to school. This program also provides full time childcare for children ages 3-12 and summer school classes for school age children when school is not in session. The program allows parents to feel secure that their children are in a safe and positive environment after school, and before the end of their work or school day.
A community program that offers parenting classes, education and enrichment. This allows families to benefit from the Great Afternoons program together, and addresses some of the needs of the families with children enrolled in Great Afternoons programs in a holistic way.
A service-learning project created to encourage multi-generational collaboration and enhance food security. The Great Garden offers Great Afternoons and local elementary school students with a hands-on learning opportunity to dig in and get to know about nature, nutrition, biology, gardening and the food growth system. Students from the Reedsport Community Charter School also work and learn in the garden. Most of the food is donated to a local food bank to provide additional nutrition resources to hungry families. As the garden continues to grow and provide more resources for the community, Great Afternoons staff expects that more workshops, work days, hands-on learning and classroom projects will take root to better benefit the Reedsport area.
