Ingredients
- 3 cups cold water
- 16 cups flour
- 4 tsp salt
- 2 ½ cups unsalted butter
Directions
- With a fork, mix together the flour and salt
- Using a pastry blender, cut the butter into the flour mixture. If the butter is too cold, soften it in the microwave beforehand. Don't overmix - the dough should be crumbly
- Add water 1 Tbsp at a time. Note that you may need more or less water than listed in the ingredients to get the right consistency.
- Sprinkle the counter with some flour and coast your rolling pin with flour.
- Shape your dough into a ball, and then slightly flatten it out. Roll it from there.
- Once the dough is rolled, roll it onto the rolling pin and place it in the pie pan. Tear off any excess dough that can be used for a top crust, another pie, and/or snacking.
- Variation: Before you line the pie plate with dough, cut a clove of garlic in half and rub the cut surface of the clove over the interior surface of the pie plate. Discard the garlic and proceed to line the pie plate with dough.
