In 2010 the South Coast Food Share distributed 1,919,952 pounds of food to partner agencies. This food was enough to make 201,354 meals for 106,570 individuals in 38,328 households in Curry and Coos Counties. Aside from food received from the SCFS, partner agencies distributed 373,718 pounds of donated and purchased food to clients in 2010.
In addition to receiving and distributing food to people in Coos and Curry Counties, SCFS works with those in need through advocacy and education about government assistance programs. When someone receives food from SCFS they also receive information about other programs that Oregon Coast Community Action manages, including housing and energy assistance, Head Start preschool, the Supplemental Nutrition Aid Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamps), and other programs that can help alleviate the effects of poverty. In this way, ORCCA and SCFS combat poverty holistically by helping people in many areas of their lives.
