What is food insecurity?

E-mail Print PDF
Food insecurity is the limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways. Basically, if you are unsure about whether you will have a safe and healthy meal that you can buy and make for yourself, then you are experiencing food insecurity. Food insecurity is a direct result of poverty and inadequate means to buy food.
