Local businesses are partnering together to help families thrive along the South Coast with the Care-A-Van Food Drive. The event begins Monday, June 7, 2010, with 40 local businesses serving as drop-off sites for food donations and cash contributions along the South Coast. The month-long donation drive event ends with a large “Care-A-Van” or parade of vehicles on Saturday, July 10, that will drive through town to the South Coast Food Share warehouse with volunteers and donations! Sponsoring Care-A-Van for the second year, The World Newspaper has worked with Oregon Coast Community Action to coordinate the food drive, and the Coos Bay-North Bend Rotary, the Bay Area Rotary and the Bay Area Sunrise Rotary clubs have volunteered labor to move the food. The food drive will encourage community members to donate food or make cash contributions to help local children and families thrive. Donations may be made at any of the 40 local businesses participating in the Care-A-Van event. Sites include: Tower Ford; Fred Meyer; Farr’s True Value Hardware; Coldwell Banker Justrom & Stromme Realty; Bay Appliance; Wells Fargo Bank; Coos Bay Toyota; Bay Area Chamber of Commerce; The Pottery Company; Sterling Savings Bank branches in Coos Bay, Empire and North Bend; Coos Bay Visitor’s Center; Northwest Community Credit Union; Nissan, K-Mart; Yellow Cab Taxi; Albertsons; K-DOCK Radio; Bay Area Hospital; Coos Bay Honda; North Bend Public Library; North Bend Fire Station; North Bend City Hall; North Bend Municipal Pool; SOFCU Credit Union; McKay’s Fresh-Mart and Price & Pride stores; and Y-Marina.
