Java Jones

E-mail Print PDF

Hi everyone… last week I had the opportunity to attend a meeting at Java Jones in Empire. They have a terrific place with a nice atmosphere and good food. Laurie Moore from Java Jones tells me that they do a lot for their neighbors including; running tabs for those in need, feeding children before school, provide an outlet for those with talents that need a place to express it and let counselors use their spare

room free of charge.

Ms. Moore also told me that last winter a couple, that was homeless, was lucky enough to find an apartment but had nothing to put in it. As a group within Java coffee house they gathered together furniture, pots and pans, food to help get them started and helped them move in to their new home.

This Coffee House is a wonderful demonstration of a community-gathering place for all! Please consider stopping by and thanking them for the things they do everyday! Oh and buy a latté… they are wonderful.

Fun Festival 2008

E-mail Print PDF

“Wow!” what a great turn out for the Fun Festival parade today. It seem like there were more people lining the street than last year. Our South Coast Head Start bus was full of happy children and parents. Our Food Share Bear was quite the dancer along with a hot pepper, carrot and pea pod! The Fred Meyer Bear and employees joined us too.

As we drove by the crowd you could see the recognition on their faces for South Coast Food Share and South Coast Head Start and now the ORCCA logo.

We had a wonderful location for our booth this year and the 5-dollar stuffed animals were a favorite, along with CASA jewelry. I purchased a fun CASA watch. When I was at our booth as some parents helped their small boy pick out a piece of candy and then let him drop a coin into our donation can. It was extremely heart warming.

Thanks to everyone for participating and helping us get the word out about all the things we do to feed, house, warm, and educate our neighbors!
