What is Toy Tales? Toy Tales, a youth initiative program of Oregon Coast Community Action (ORCCA), promotes youth philanthropy and volunteerism through education, volunteer activities and leadership opportunities.
How Toy Tales works: Every child’s toy has a tale, whether it’s a teddy bear visiting outer space or Barbie swimming across the ocean. Toy Tales works with local schools to implement philanthropy-driven lessons into the curriculum, and this includes students writing and sharing their toy’s tales. In turn, these lessons teach children compassion, empathy and how they can help other children who are in need. Toy Tales also teaches youth about philanthropy through the fundraising experience. This includes toy drives and sales, in which gently used toys are collected from the community, cleaned, tagged and sold back to the community for affordable prices. The proceeds from these sales go towards ORCCA’s children’s programs:
South Coast Head Start
Court Appointed Special Advocates
Great Afternoons and Beginnings
Furthermore, these fundraising activities also support the youth in our community in developing leadership skills.
Toy Tales in action: There are a variety of ways to get involved with Toy Tales and ORCCA’s other children’s programs:
Contact ORCCA about implementing a Toy Tales lesson plan.
Volunteer (in the ORCCA office, at a Head Start site, as a CASA member, packing Snack Packs, etc.).
Get involved in a Toy Tales event.
Lead a toy drive or sale through your workplace, club or school.
We accept donations of gently-used toys, children’s clothing, educational materials, sporting goods and other children-related materials. Even if there is not a current toy drive, donations are always welcome—just bring them to room 229 in the Newmark Center in Coos Bay.
