South Coast Head Start is a comprehensive early childhood program that serves children and pregnant women of income eligible families throughout the Southern Oregon Coast. The program is funded by both state and federal grants. All services are provided at no cost to the families. 

South Coast Head Start offers a fun, researched-based curriculum; free and healthy meals; inclusive services for children with disabilities; child development, nutrition, and health screening with follow-up support for all enrolled children.

Priority for enrollment in Head Start programs is based on child age, family income, disabilities, and other factors that demonstrate a need for services.

Early Head Start

Pregnant Mom – 3 years old

  • Home Based Option: Available in Coos, Curry, and Coastal Douglas communities. Includes weekly 1.5 hour home visits and 2 Family Group times per month.

  • Center Based Option: Available at Coos Bay Location. Monday thru Friday for 7 hours. Includes two Educational focused visits and three family focused visits per year. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Priority is given to working families and those pursuing their educational goals.

  • Full Day/Center Based Option: Available at Coos Bay Location. Monday thru Friday for 10 hours. Includes two Educational focused visits and three family focused visits per year. Three daily meals are provided. Additional eligibility requirements 

Head Start

3 – 5 years old

  • Half Day Option: Available in Coos, Curry, and Coastal Douglas communities. Monday thru Thursday for 3.5 hours

       *Bus transportation may be available in select areas

  • Extended Day Option: Available in Select Areas. Monday thru Friday for 5 hours a day.

  • School Year Option: Available in Select Areas. Monday thru Thursday for 7.25 hours a day.

  • Full Day Option: Located at Coos Bay Location. Monday thru Friday for 10 hours a day. Three daily meals are provided. Addition eligibility requirements

These options above include four Home Visits per year: two educational based with your teacher and two family focused with your family engagement specialist.
