Stand in the Gap for Our Neighbors - January 2026
Even though the immediate threat of a SNAP disruption has passed, food insecurity has not gone away on Oregon’s South Coast. The loss of the ABAWD waiver, rising food prices, and the increasing cost of living continue to put pressure on individuals and families across Coos and Curry Counties.
South Coast Food Share, a program of Oregon Coast Community Action, launched the Stand in the Gap campaign to help ensure our neighbors have consistent access to food when other supports fall short. For many households, a small change in benefits or expenses can mean the difference between stability and going without.
On the South Coast, we take care of each other. We have weathered storms, wildfires, and economic uncertainty together, and we continue to show up for our neighbors when it matters most.
Whether you can give $5 or $500, your support has an immediate, local impact. Every gift helps put food on tables, reduces stress for families, and reminds our community that they are not facing these challenges alone.

About South Coast Food Share
South Coast Food Share (SCFS) has provided hunger-relief services to Oregon’s South Coast since 1965. As the Regional Food Bank for Coos and Curry Counties and a proud member of the Oregon Food Bank Network, we work alongside partners, programs, and community organizations that share a common belief — no one should be hungry.
Our Impact
Each year, SCFS distributes between 1.7 to 2 million pounds of food across Coos and Curry Counties through a network of 34 partner agencies and programs. These include:
-
Emergency food pantries
-
Community meal sites
-
Produce and mobile food distributions
-
Medical and senior nutrition programs
-
Veteran and family support initiatives
The need for food assistance continues to rise due to reductions in SNAP benefits, increasing housing and transportation costs, and the overall cost of living. Rural and coastal households, in particular, face higher barriers to consistent access to healthy food.
By the Numbers (Fiscal Year 2024-2025)
-
36,599 food boxes distributed
-
156,795 meals provided
-
Over 457,000 pounds of food delivered to Curry County alone
-
26 percent of people served are children
-
18 percent are seniors on fixed incomes
-
Over 67,000 volunteer hours contributed by local community members
These numbers represent neighbors helping neighbors — a reflection of our community’s dedication to ensuring everyone has enough to eat.
The Power of Your Donation
Through local partnerships, food rescue programs, and bulk purchasing power, SCFS makes every dollar count.
-
$1 = 3 pounds of food
-
$1 = approximately 2.5 meals
-
$10 provides 25 meals
-
$25 supports a family for a week
-
$100 helps sustain a rural food delivery route
Your contributions directly strengthen our local food system, keeping food available for anyone who needs it — no judgment, no barriers.
Community Support
This work is made possible through the ongoing dedication of volunteers, local partner agencies, and community sponsors who believe in a hunger-free South Coast. Their time, resources, and compassion extend far beyond the food itself — they nourish hope.
