South Coast Head Start

At South Coast Head Start, we know families are a child’s first and most important teachers. We partner with you to help your child learn, grow, and stay healthy from birth to age 5. We also connect your family with caring staff, helpful resources, and a community that wants you and your child to thrive.

Head Start and Early Head Start services are available at no cost for eligible families with children from birth to age 5 and pregnant participants. Our safe, caring programs help children feel confident, build new skills, and get ready for school.

​Early Head Start Home-Based Services: Available in Coos, Curry, and Coastal Douglas communities for expectant families and children ages 0–3.

​

​Parenting is full of happy moments, and it can also feel hard at times. You do not have to do it alone. In our Home-Based Program, a friendly home visitor comes to your home each week for about an hour and a half to spend time with you and your child, share ideas, answer questions, and support your family goals.

​

Together, you will talk about your child’s growth, routines, interests, and what you are noticing at home. Twice a month, families are also invited to group activities where you can meet other parents and children, share experiences, and learn through play.

​Head Start and Early Head Start Center-Based Classes: Part-day and extended-day options are available in Coos, Curry, and Coastal Douglas communities for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Classes run Monday through Thursday, and bus transportation is available in some areas.

​

In our classrooms, children learn by exploring, playing, creating, and building relationships with caring teachers. We help each child grow across all developmental areas including building friendships, language, early reading, thinking skills, and movement. Children also receive healthy meals and snacks each day.
